Our Vision
Bride Valley - The Next Chapter
In 2023 the vineyard entered a new chapter under the ownership of Alasdair Warren, a Dorset-born farmer and businessman with deep local roots and a long family history in farming and cider making. Alasdair’s professional background in finance combined with his understanding of the economic challenges of farming, bring a clear vision for the future success of Bride Valley, and UK vineyards - the only way a UK vineyard can work successfully is by building direct to consumer relationships.
Keeping our fingers crossed!
The weather is arguably the biggest challenge we face as vineyard owners in the UK. Our climate is notorious for being unpredictable, which can make grape growing a bit of a gamble. Some years, we get the perfect amount of sunshine and rain, while other years can bring early frosts, heavy rain, or unexpected cold snaps, all of which can damage the crop.
With all these growing challenges, why should distributors take the lion's share of the profit, yet none of the economic risk of growing vines? The traditional wine distribution model leaves the grower with the smallest slice. At Bride Valley our efforts are focused on our direct-to- consumer channels, because when customers purchase directly from us, we can invest every penny back into supporting the vineyard and making exceptional wine. By cutting out the additional costs of distributors and retailers we can focus on what matters: producing the best wine possible. This means better quality grapes, more attention to detail, and the ability to continually improve every vintage.
Our Single Estate - We don’t make wine from anyone else’s grapes
Buying single estate wines means choosing the true taste of a place. At Bride Valley, every bottle begins in our Dorset vineyard - grown, harvested, and made exclusively from grapes nurtured on our land. Every bottle represents a year of hard graft, battling against the weather and disease risk. Because our grapes travel less than 10 miles from vine to winery, they retain their freshness and delicate flavours, allowing us to capture the purest expression of our terroir. This approach ensures a wine that is as distinctive as the landscape it comes from. Our chalky, limestone rich Kimmeridgian soils, proximity to the coast, salty sea breezes and sheltered steep-sided valley all add to the unique flavour of our grapes. By choosing UK single estate wines, you’re supporting local and experiencing English wine at its most precise and delicious.
Keeping it local and sustainable
Looking after a vineyard this size is a 365 day a year job. There’s no shortcut when it comes to maintaining healthy vines and every step from planting to pruning, to harvesting, requires a great deal of care and attention. The need for seasonal labour during harvest time means there’s always the challenge of finding staff and ensuring that everyone is properly trained. Many UK vineyards rely on seasonal workers from abroad who bring expertise and speed. However, we think there are enough people locally to help us and since taking on the vineyard we have only used a local workforce during harvest. This is more sustainable, reduces travel time and puts local people back in touch with the challenges and rewards of farming. We also do as many vineyard tasks by hand, run our vineyard tours off-grid and have implemented a sustainability program which to date has included, hedgerow plantings, wild flower meadow, improved soil structure.
Best of both worlds
By only selling directly to you, we offer more competitive prices and a stronger connection to the vineyard where the wine is grown. No middlemen mean better value, greater transparency, and wines that reflect the true quality of the land, the winemaker, and the region. At Bride Valley Wines, we’re committed to making fine wine more accessible without unnecessary added costs. Join us in embracing a better, more direct way to enjoy the best English wines we can produce.
